Introduction
The process of applying for a driving license in Kenya is straightforward. All you will need to do is fill out an application form, submit it and pay for the required documents. Once this is done, you will receive your driving license at your preferred address in less than a week.
Eligibility
- You must be a Kenyan citizen.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- It would be best if you had a valid passport, which is still helpful for at least six months from the date of application (unless your current visa has been issued within the last six months)
- Your driver’s license from your home country should be valid for at least one year from the date of application for an international driving permit (this means that if you’re applying now and it expires in three months, you’ll need to get another one).
Exam pattern
The exam is divided into two parts: a theory test and a practical driving test. You can take the theory test anytime but must pass both details to get your license.
Theory Test
The theory exam consists of 50 questions you must answer within 1 hour and 20 minutes. You will be asked questions about road signs, traffic laws (including speed limits), safe driving techniques, vehicle maintenance and road rules. You may use a dictionary or reference materials during this part of the exam if needed; however, no calculators are allowed during this section.*
